Something New at the TTC! New Token Makes Official Debut

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 20, 2006) - The Toronto Transit Commission has introduced a brand new, two colour token. The new token was officially unveiled this afternoon by TTC Chair Howard Moscoe and TTC Interim Chief General Manager Gary Webster.

The new token is designed with the latest in technology, making it next to impossible to re-produce. Over the past two years, the TTC has lost approximately $10 million from the sale of counterfeit tokens.

The TTC has ordered 20 million new tokens at a cost of $1.7 million.

The new token will officially go on sale on Sunday, November 26. Use your old tokens before the end of January. Beginning February 1st, only new tokens will be accepted as fare.

Exchange of old tokens for new begins January 2nd, for two months at selected Collector Booths - Bloor-Yonge, Finch, Kipling and Warden - and at TTC Head Office, 1900 Yonge Street.
