Something Wild This Way Comes... Antler: Opening at Dundas and Gladstone on October 23th, 2015

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 14, 2015) - To Canada's most urbane city comes a restaurant with a menu that is rural to its roots. Antler taps the tastes, flavours and aromas of our glorious near-north. Venison, wild boar and bison meet wild leaks, morels, and chanterelles.

Toronto chef Michael Hunter, lately executive chef at Red's, and his business partner, Jody Shapiro, have launched a collaboration that puts a wild spin on Canadian cuisine.

Patrons will experience entrees such as Spice Ash Crusted Rack of Deer, and a Game Burger made with Wild boar, bison and deer. Pastas such as pappardelle with braised rabbit, buttered leeks, verjus apricot preserve and parmesan cheese. Appetizers like Wild Boar Gyoza, and Chanterelle Mushroom Tarte Tatin.

More than just "house made", many menu items are "Antler foraged", hand-picked in the countryside by Chef Hunter himself. Born and raised on a Caledon hobby farm, Hunter says, "It has been a dream of mine to own a restaurant that would combine a love for dining with a passion and respect for local ingredients. This is my dream come true: I used to pick morels in the forest near my home. Now, I am a professional chef with a restaurant where the local flavours of my childhood are the palette for extraordinary cuisine."

Co-owner, Jody Shapiro, a Toronto filmmaker who apprenticed under Hunter, is thrilled to be bringing his producing skills to the restaurant world. "Opening a restaurant is like producing a movie: the key ingredients are a great story and a great story teller. And Michael's cooking is beyond words."

"We want Antler to inspire everyone who visits. We are strongly rooted in regional food culture --- pure, fresh and seasonal. Antler embodies local flavor and spirit, offering contemporary dishes with an emphasis on farm-fresh ingredients that are always sourced locally," says Shapiro.

Antler is located in the heart of little Portugal, at 1454 Dundas Street West. The space has been renovated to feature an open-kitchen, main dining room, and bar area.

Doors will be open to the public on October 23th starting at 5:00pm. "Come visit us at Antler and fall in love with Canadian cuisine."

Antler will be open year-round Tuesday- Sunday, from 5:00pm until Late.
