Sony's CEO to Join Stellar Keynote Line-Up at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show; State of the Industry Address by CEA President and CEO to Precede Opening Keynote

BERLIN--(CCNMatthews - Sep 2, 2005) -

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced today that Sir Howard Stringer, chairman and CEO of Sony Corp. will deliver a keynote address at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Stringer is slated to deliver the opening keynote address on Thursday, January 5, 2006, at 9 a.m. Immediately prior to his speech, Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, will present a State of the Industry Address at 8:30 a.m. Both events will take place in the Hilton Theater of the Las Vegas Hilton. The 2006 International CES runs January 5-8.

"Sony is one of the largest and most influential consumer electronics manufacturers and entertainment companies in the world, with a broad range of quality products," said Shapiro. "For the sixth year in a row in the annual Harris poll, consumers rated Sony as America's Number One Brand. As the newly installed global head of Sony, Howard is a natural choice for the 2006 International CES keynote program and we are thrilled to announce his participation."

Appointed chairman and CEO of Sony in June 2005, Stringer also serves as the head of Sony Corporation of America and as a member of Sony's Board of Directors. Prior to joining Sony in 1997, Stringer had a distinguished 30-year career in journalism and television, serving as president of CBS Inc. and chairman and CEO of TELE-TV. A native of Wales, Sir Howard Stringer was knighted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1999.

Stringer last delivered a keynote address at the International CES in 1999. This year, he joins other confirmed CES keynoters, Microsoft's Bill Gates, Intel's Paul Otellini and Yahoo's Terry Semel, in the International CES keynote line-up.

The 2006 International CES focuses on more than 30 product areas from more than 2,500 exhibitors spread throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Sands Expo and Convention Center, the Las Vegas Hilton and the Alexis Park.
