Sooke Potholes Campaign Reaches Target with Support from Shaw

CALGARY, ALBERTA AND VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 25, 2005) - The Land Conservancy (TLC) and Shaw Communications Inc. (TSX:SJR.NV.B) (NYSE:SJR) today announced that Shaw has come forward with a $200,000 contribution for TLC's Sooke Potholes campaign that will finalize the acquisition of the famed property.

TLC Executive Director Bill Turner said, "This tremendous community investment from Shaw means we can complete the acquisition and pay off the remaining $200,000 in loans we had to incur in order to secure the site. We have reached our initial target for the acquisition, and can now turn our full attention to getting the new Sooke Potholes Regional Park ready to open for visitors this summer. "

"We are proud to support this work and partner with organizations who share our commitment to our communities," said JR Shaw, Executive Chair Shaw Communications Inc. "TLC is taking great strides to ensure that our children and future generations will continue to have access to special places like Sooke Potholes and we congratulate them on their phenomenal efforts to date."

The total acquisition cost for the site was $3.3 million. Of this, $2.4 million came from the Capital Regional District and the Province of B.C. To date, TLC had raised $700,000 from its public appeal. The contribution from Shaw has raised TLC's share to $900,000.

With the acquisition phase of the Sooke Potholes project now completed and the creation of a regional park announced, TLC will immediately proceed with Phase 2 to get the park and the campground up and running this summer. Phase 3 will include TLC's development of a visitor's centre on the site over the next few years.
