Sophos Provides OEM Partners Additional Cloud Protection

Sophos' Cloud-Based Intelligence Improves Threat Response, Reduces False Positives and Provides More Accurate Threat Detection

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - Feb 20, 2013) - Sophos today announced that the company will now offer OEM partners using the Sophos threat detection engine on Windows and Linux platforms a new cloud-based security service to respond to the ever-changing threat landscape.

Volume of Malware Threatens Security
SophosLabs detects and analyzes more than 250,000 malware samples each day, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for traditional signature-based anti-malware products to keep up with this immense volume. Though proactive technologies are capable of detecting many of these threats, being overly aggressive in threat detection in order to protect the network can drain IT resources.

Adding a Layer of Protection
For more than 20 years, Sophos' Anti-Virus Interface (SAV Interface) has provided software vendors, hardware vendors, ISPs and ASPs an easy way to rapidly integrate the Sophos threat detection engine into their own industry-standard applications and solutions. Adding this cloud-based service to the Sophos threat detection engine allows OEM partners to more efficiently address the growing volume of malware threatening to compromise customers' networks. And because SophosLabs is getting -- in real time -- threat information through the cloud-based service, it can now provide better proactive protection, thus improving response speed and decreasing the number of false positives.

No Upgrade Required
The cloud-based service is configurable through SAV Interface and is available to all current Sophos OEM partners using the Sophos threat detection engine on Windows and Linux platforms, as well as new OEM partners. It is available at no additional cost and does not require partners to upgrade the Sophos threat detection engine.

"We have a deep commitment to delivering competitive value to our OEM partners. Our ultimate goal is to provide all of our partners with the best products and services in the industry, enabling them to benefit from higher uptime, fewer support calls and higher customer satisfaction," said Mark Harris, vice president of engineering, Sophos. "The addition of cloud-based intelligence to the Sophos threat detection engine is just one example of how we help our OEM partners remain competitive and ensure their products incorporate the latest security technology."
