Sotheby's International Realty Achieves Highest Waterfront Property Sale in Greenwich History as Sotheby's Auction House Concludes the Successful Related Sale of the Hascoe Family Collection

GREENWICH, CT--(Marketwire - Jun 30, 2011) - Sotheby's International Realty, Inc., today announced the sale of Point of View, the century-old Long Island Sound compound of the late Norman and Suzanne Hascoe, offered with an asking price of $42.5 million. According to the Greenwich Multiple Listing Service, the sale is the highest price achieved for a waterfront property in Greenwich history and the highest property sale in Greenwich since 2004.

"This record-setting sale aligns with what we're experiencing in Greenwich, which is that high-end buyers are returning to the market, and they are acting on special opportunities such as the Hascoe family estate," said Kathy Korte, president and chief executive officer of Sotheby's International Realty, Inc. "The sale is also an affirmation that Greenwich is among the most desirable and unique communities to live in, with its outstanding cultural amenities, beautiful parks and idyllic waterfront, all just 50 minutes away from New York City."

Sotheby's International Realty and Sotheby's auction house, which share a unique and longstanding association that allows the two companies to engage in joint marketing opportunities, worked together less than one year ago to list the estate and its contents simultaneously.

While Sotheby's International Realty's Greenwich-based brokerage worked to market and sell the home, Sotheby's handled the sale of the Hascoe family's significant collection of fine and decorative arts across a number of auctions. These sales concluded on June 13 in London with "The Hascoe Family Collection of Important Czech Art," which nearly doubled its pre-sale estimate.

"Sotheby's auction house has been honored to offer Property from the Hascoe Family Collection over a series of sales from early 2011 to the present, both in our New York and London salerooms," commented Warren Weitman, Chairman of Sotheby's North and South America. "The success of the collection, which was originally housed in Norman and Suzanne Hascoe's waterfront estate, is a testament to the Hascoes' shared passion and discerning eye."

Sotheby's International Realty said that the estate, located in Field Point Park, is situated on 4.26+/- acres fronting 340 feet of shoreline with views of Greenwich Point and harbor islands. The home includes an atrium gallery, window-walled living room and natatorium/ballroom featuring an elaborate mosaic floor that lowers with the touch of a button to transform into an indoor pool. The park-like grounds include a historic suspension bridge designed by John Roebling & Sons, designers of the Brooklyn Bridge.

"Point of View is one of Greenwich's most significant waterfront estates, located in one of the most sought-after enclaves on the Connecticut coastline," said Sotheby's International Realty listing agent Joseph Barbieri. "Its successful sale demonstrates the strong and ongoing demand for prime waterfront property such as this one, with its commanding setting and extraordinary views."
