Soul of the South Television Receives Minority Business Enterprise Certification

LITTLE ROCK, AR--(Marketwired - May 28, 2013) - Soul of the South Television, a new broadcast television network headquartered in Little Rock, has recently gained certification as a bona fide Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with the Arkansas-Mississippi Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. -- one of the 36 regional affiliates of the National Minority Supplier Development Council. The council functions as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization which identifies and certifies minority suppliers, facilitating procurement opportunities to bridge the gaps between minority suppliers and Corporate America.

"We're honored to receive MBE certification, which will provide additional momentum to our plan to build Soul of the South Television across the South and beyond," said Edwin V. Avent, President and CEO, Soul of the South Television. "The certification and the prestigious MBE roster of corporate members and businesses will place our television network in a favorable position for growth and success."

Launching Memorial Day weekend 2013, Soul of the South Television is the nation's only MBE certified African-American owned broadcast network. Targeting African-Americans living in the South, the network will initially air in Little Rock, Chicago, Alexandria (LA) and Lafayette (LA). Soul of the South Television will reach 60 markets and 67% of African-American households by October 1. The network will feature 4 hours of news daily, and a lineup of classic comedies, dramas, and movies.

"The designation 'certified MBE' allows leading corporations to have access to bona fide minority businesses who have the capacity to bring quality products and services to the broader market," added Mia McNeal, President and CEO, Arkansas-Mississippi Minority Supplier Development Council. "We are incredibly proud of Soul of the South and look forward to years of growth and excellence at the company."

The MBE certification is a highly coveted certification for minority-owned businesses in the United States. To receive MBE certification, a company must be at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by an ethnic minority U.S. citizen and undergo a stringent forensic review process, which includes a tour of the offices and headquarters of the Company and the confirmation of ethnic identity of the Company's founders, managers and investors.

Soul of the South's certification was granted May 17th by the board of directors of the Arkansas-Mississippi Minority Supplier Development Council through criteria established by the National Minority Supplier Development Council.

Soul of the South Television will be listed in a national database, which can be accessed by all 36 regional minority-purchasing councils and thousands of corporations and businesses across the country.
