SourceForge.net® Announces First Annual Community Choice Awards Honoring Outstanding Open Source Projects

Nominations Selected and Voting Is Now Open on World's Largest Open Source Site: IT Community to Choose the Best Projects in Fourteen Technology Categories

FREMONT, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 20, 2006 -- SourceForge.net (part of the OSTG, Inc. technology media network, a wholly owned subsidiary of VA Software Corporation), (NASDAQ: LNUX), the world's largest collaboration site enabling IT strategy through Open Source, announced that voting is now open for the first annual SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards.

"We saw these awards as a way to recognize the achievements of projects that are making a difference and contributing to the greater good," said Jay Seirmarco, general manager of SourceForge.net. "Consistent with the concepts that are leading Open Source to mainstream success, we are empowering the community and visitors to SourceForge.net to choose the very best projects among the 115,000 projects currently hosted on the site."

The Community Choice Awards will feature a winner in each of fourteen key technology categories: Clustering, Database, Desktop, Development, Enterprise, Financial, Games, Hardware, Multimedia, Networking, Security, SysAdmin, VoIP and Best Overall.

When a project is registered on SourceForge.net, it has to be tagged to fall into specific technology categories. Projects included in the SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards were selected based on activity ranking within each of the technology categoies. A nominations phase was concluded on March 15, 2006 and projects selected from that nominations phase join other pre-qualified projects to comprise the list of finalists. Each voting category has between 10 and 15 projects, based on a combination of community nominations and activity ranking. Only one winner will be selected for each category.

Voting will be open until 11:59 p.m., EST, March 23, 2006. Winners will be announced at the Slashdot Lounge at LinuxWorld on April 5, 2006, in Boston. Visit www.sourceforge.net to vote.
