Sous Kitchen Helps Bay Area Families Combat the Rising Cost of Food

Sous Kitchen Customers Spend Less at the Grocery Store and Still Serve Healthy and Convenient Dinners

SAN CARLOS, CA--(Marketwire - June 11, 2008) - Sous Kitchen, Inc., in collaboration with the International Association of Meal Prep Businesses (IAMPB), released survey results regarding the impact of meal assembly stores on consumer lives. In the survey of over 1,800 customers from 23 states and Canada, results indicated customers enjoyed greater diversity in the meals they eat at home, while spending less time and money at the grocery store.

The survey showed that customers look to Sous Kitchen for the convenience of not having to plan and prepare meals, menu diversity, and as a way to avoid highly processed foods. While they are drawn to the industry for improving their quality of life, they are finding they don't have to pay extra for these benefits.

Despite the dramatic increase in food prices, 89 percent of Sous Kitchen customers reported spending the same or less on food costs. Seventy-six percent of customers spent less time planning, shopping and preparing meals; 70 percent of customers had more diversity in home-cooked meals; and 59 percent ate healthier meals. For a service often perceived as a luxury, it is notable that most customers spend the same or less on food.

"As food costs increase, gas prices exceed 4 dollars per gallon and the housing market plateaus, everyone is concerned with spending," said Nadine Johnson, CEO of Sous Kitchen. "We are proud to offer our customers delicious, healthy and convenient alternatives at an economical price."

"For example, to make our Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas at home, you would spend over 40 dollars in groceries and 2 to 3 hours at home in the kitchen," said Michael Paik, Sous Kitchen's executive chef. "We make the enchilada sauce from scratch, roast the peppers, and prepare the shredded chicken. So you get home-made flavor, without the work and for less money."

Sous Kitchen's in-store customers can make of a month's worth of dinners in one stop rather than weekly trips to the grocery store or daily trips to restaurants. Sous Kitchen's delivery customers (home and workplace) can have a month's worth of meals delivered to their doorsteps or workplaces without spending a penny on gas.

Once survey respondent commented, "Sous Kitchen has changed my life... their homemade approach to high-end, non-processed gourmet food fits the California lifestyle. We love it!"

According to Ms. Johnson, "If you look at it from a purely economic perspective, Sous Kitchen makes good financial sense. You get great tasting, restaurant quality meals, healthier dinner choices and a substantial time savings. It all adds up."
