THOMASVILLE, GA--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - A major South Georgia disaster housing and emergency relief supplier to the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed an interest to assist in Japan and the South Pacific, according to company spokesperson Matt Williams. "We are currently working in Haiti and through the Caribbean and South America, and we have expressed our desire to help support the relief operations in Japan," said Williams. "As a major supplier of disaster housing and other emergency relief supplies, Harbor Homes and its Haitian subsidiary PermaShelter S.A. have considerable experience in responding to the short-term housing needs that emerge in the aftermath of natural disasters."

Harbor Homes, based in Thomasville, Georgia, holds a current $153 million contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security here in the U.S. The company manufactures a wide variety of temporary, transitional, and permanent homes and has been working over the past year on constructing thousands of transitional shelters in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

"The needs are different after each disaster," says Lucas Stewart, owner and CEO of Harbor Homes, LLC. "We have manufactured everything from $500 transitional shelters wrapped in plastic to quarter million dollar luxury houseboats. Our manufacturing line can be up and running in a matter of days, which is why FEMA called us within hours of the Haiti disaster and why the U.S. government relies on our company to assist in large scale disasters."

Harbor Homes management has been monitoring the situation in Japan closely recalled key personnel for a weekend planning session. "Splitting manufacturing in response to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan between our Harbor Homes plant in Thomasville, Georgia and our PermaShelter plant in Carrefour, Haiti is one option that is being discussed," said Williams. "We expect to know quite a bit more in the next 72 hours."

The Harbor Homes family of companies includes Harbor Homes, LLC, PermaShelter S.A., Intrepid Structures, and Outlast Emergency Products. PermaShelter S.A. is the exclusive distributor of the Concrete MD in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
