Southern Silver Acquires High-Grade Mexican Copper Property

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 1, 2005) - Southern Silver Exploration Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SSV)(FWB:SEG) reported today that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire a 100% interest in a potential high-grade copper prospect in Jalisco, Mexico. The "La Sorpressa" project comprises four mining concessions for 360ha and is located 80 kilometres W-SW from Guadalajara City.

The claims cover an area of mineralized quartz-tourmaline breccias hosted by quartz-monzonite to granodiorite intrusive. Preliminary mapping has identified three mineralized breccias, the largest of which extends 600m x 70m. Surface sampling revealed several areas of high grade copper (greater than 1% Cu) within the breccias identified to date.

The La Sorpressa project has seen only limited shallow drill testing and has been explored by shallow adits and cross-cuts in an area 180 metres x 70 metres wide. Up to 2700 tonnes at a grade of 2% Cu is reported to have been mined in the late 1990's. Recently completed representative chip samples from these historic underground workings returned 32 metres of 2.1% Cu and 9g/t Ag.

Southern Silver president, Lawrence Page said, "La Sorpressa represents an outstanding exploration opportunity as the high-grade copper breccias may be sourced from a deeper porphyry system as found in certain Arizona porphyry copper districts." These higher level breccias bear some similarity to those at the Copper Creek Deposit in central Arizona where recent reserve estimates include +11.0MMT of 1.98% Cu in shallow breccias and 73.5MMT of 0.76% Cu in the associated deeper porphyry system.

Southern Silver can acquire a 100% interest in the property by making staged payments totaling US$1,000,0000 over four years. Exploration plans include the completion of surface mapping and sampling, ground geophysics and drill testing scheduled for the first quarter of 2006.
