Southern Silver to Explore Large Copper/Gold/Silver Project in Durango, Mexico

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 21, 2005) - Southern Silver Exploration Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SSV)(FWB:SEG) reported today the company has signed a Letter of Understanding to acquire a 100 percent interest in the Santo Domingo (El Coyote) project in Durango, Mexico. The project consists of four mineral concessions totaling 5,496 hectares and is located about 195 kilometers north-northeast of Durango City, Durango, Mexico. Prior to formalizing the acquisition, Southern will conduct an on site due diligence review of these four structurally-controlled, high-grade copper-gold-silver-lead-zinc mineralized prospects.

Historical exploration included a modest surface sampling program that identified multiple strongly-developed fault/vein zones with rock-chip assays grading +1% copper and accompanied by anomalous gold, silver, lead and zinc. In addition, scattered rock-chip samples collected over a large area returned highly anomalous arsenic, antimony and molybdenum values. Although much of the project area is dominated by the widespread copper mineralization, samples collected across multiple 1-5 metres wide vein/fault zones have yielded values of 100 to 789 g/t silver and 0.2 to 13.3 g/t gold, 1% to 5.8% copper and anomalous lead and zinc.

In 2000, Mount Isa Mines (MIM) conducted reconnaissance geologic mapping, rock-chip and stream-sediment sampling, limited I.P. and magnetic surveys and nine widely-spaced reverse-circulation drill holes that returned long intervals of anomalous but sub-economic copper mineralization.

Subsequent surface evaluation indicates that multiple well-developed, northwest-trending fault zones cut upper-plate quartzites within a zone measuring about 500 metres wide and two kilometres long. This target area as well as the high-grade-mineral potential of fault/vein zones in the area of the vertical reverse-circulation drilling program was not evaluated or drilled by MIM.
