Southern Star Resources Announces Appointment of New Director

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 24, 2006) - Southern Star Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:SSR) ("Southern Star") is pleased to announce that Mr. Thomas Pladsen has been appointed to the board of directors of Southern Star, subject to the receipt of regulatory approval.

Mr. Pladsen received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo Ontario, before joining KPMG LPP's Toronto, Ontario office. He was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 1985 and moved to KPMG's London, England office. On his return to Canada in 1987, he joined Northfield Capital Corporation, public merchant banking firm, as Vice-President, Finance. Since 1989 he has worked directly with Northfield Capital's public investee companies. These companies have been involved in resource exploration and development in North America and internationally. Mr. Pladsen is currently the president of the general partner for Easton Drilling Funds as well as serving as the CFO of Andina Minerals Inc. and Katanga Mining Limited. In addition to Northfield Capital, Mr. Pladsen sits on the Board of Directors of Katanga Mining Limited, Cimatec Environmental Engineering Inc and Westchester Resources Inc.

In addition, Mr. Brent Peters has been appointed as Corporate Secretary of Southern Star.

Mr. Pladsen and Mr. Peters replace outgoing director Chris Irwin who has resigned as a director and Corporate Secretary of Southern Star in order to dedicate more time to his other endeavours. The board of Southern Star wishes to thank Mr. Irwin for his dedicated service and wish him well in his future endeavours.
