SoYummi Food Inc.: New Gourmet Organic, Dairy Free Dessert Snack Mousses From Quebec Now in Ontario

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 12, 2006) - After a successful four years on grocery store shelves in Quebec, the popular SoYummi dessert snacks are now available in Ontario health and specialty food stores.

Consumers can now find SoYummi in the refrigerated organic product section of more than 40 Golden Horseshoe stores including Ambrosia (Toronto), Big Carrot (Toronto), Bruno's (Toronto, Mississauga), Goodness Me (Hamilton), Green Door (Kitchener), Noah's (Toronto) and Whole Foods (Toronto & Oakville).

"At Whole Foods Market, we only offer our shoppers food in its purest form, free of artificial colors, sweeteners, preservatives or hydrogenated fats. SoYummi is an excellent addition," says John Hopperton, Metro Buyer for Whole Foods Market. "SoYummi products are delicious and have been well accepted by our customers."

"SoYummi is gourmet food at grocery store prices and contrary to popular belief, you do not have to give up great taste for the nutritional value of soy," says Joanne Hollander, SoYummi's inventor. "At SoYummi, great taste goes hand in hand with great nutrition. SoYummi is the bridge between the world of health food and gourmet food."

The SoYummi line includes GoLite mousses that are naturally sweetened with chicory syrup (no sugar or artificial sweeteners) and are offered in four flavours: Dark Chocolate; Black Cherry; California Peach; and Bavarian Cream. Other product benefits include having less then 13g of carbohydrates per 100g serving and only about 90 calories per 100 g serving (depending on the flavour). GoLite mousses are cholesterol free, lactose free, gluten free, contain no trans fats and are low in saturated fats.

SoYummi GoLite carries a suggested retail price of $4.59 for a pack of four 100-gram servings.

The SoYummi GoLite products are unique in that they have a delicious gourmet taste, while still being ideally suited for people on calorie or carbohydrate restricted diets, as well as for those who are lactose-intolerant or allergic to gluten. Its low glycemic index also makes the product suitable for diabetics. SoYummi is comprised of 80 per cent organic ingredients.

The SoYummi GoLite four pack carries the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Health Check™ symbol. The Health Check™ symbol on the package means that the product has been reviewed by the Foundation's dietitians and meets nutritional criteria for fat, sodium and calcium content based on Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating. Every participating product carries the Health Check™ symbol, a Nutrition Facts table and an explanatory message which tells consumers how the food is part of healthy eating.

Other SoYummi products include SoYummi Classic, available in raspberry, lime, coconut-banana, hazelnut coffee and chocolate flavours. All SoYummi products are perfect for vegans and vegetarians.

SoYummi was developed after more than 12 years of research by Montreal-based vegetarian chef Joanne Hollander to provide a healthy food treat for her lactose-intolerant son. SoYummi products are manufactured in Sainte-Hyacinthe, Quebec's soy capital, located on the south shore about an hour east of Montreal. SoYummi Food Inc. was launched in 2002.
