A Special Invitation to Our Media Day May 18, 2011 by The Phillis Wheatley Association

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - May 11, 2011) - Learn our history, see us in action and discuss our future on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at 4450 Cedar Ave. in Cleveland. We will be offering tours of our historic building, sharing with you one of Cleveland's best stories.

This year, The Phillis Wheatley Association celebrates the 100th anniversary as an important civic resource. Jane Edna Hunter established The Phillis Wheatley Association -- once a 23 room home for young Negro women relocating to the north who needed decent living quarters and training. The dues were fixed at a nickel a week -- no one was excluded. With ANickel And A Prayer, her vision took life and flourished. One hundred years later the Association functions as a multiservice community center serving the needs of children, youth, families and the elderly.

Join us May 18th from 1:00pm-3:00pm for a private look into what keeps this organization in full motion. We will have two tours at 1:30pm and 2:30pm. We will share our history, while discussing our challenges today of providing a multi dimensional community center in our city.

Ms. Christine Gregory, Chair for the 100th Celebration, comments:

"We are thrilled to be able to share our Association with the media and others that have a genuine interest in telling our story. We are proud to walk the halls and offer glimpses of the past while looking to the future and addressing the challenges that we face." Gregory adds, "This Association is like no other in Cleveland and we are able to rely on our rich past as our fuel to move forward."
Be our guest -- please RSVP at Enter through the open door, walk through the halls and listen to the whispers of hope, pride and promises.

"These are the friends who enabled me to open the door of safety and protection to hundreds..." Jane Edna Hunter
