SpectorSoft Recognized for Innovations in User and Entity Behavior Analytics

Spector 360 Recon Adds Psycholinguistic Indicators to Enhance Detection and Prioritization of Insider Threats

VERO BEACH, FL--(Marketwired - Dec 22, 2015) - Today SpectorSoft, an innovator in user behavior analytics and a global leader in user activity monitoring, announced multiple industry recognitions for its work in the User and Entity Behavior Analytics market during the second half of 2015. In addition to enhancing features of Spector 360 Recon™ to meet the needs of its customers, SpectorSoft was recognized by Gartner as a "Representative Vendor" in its 2015 Market Guide for User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA)1. Moreover, SpectorSoft earned the prestigious Gold status in the Golden Bridge Awards for Spector 360 Recon. The annual Golden Bridge Awards program encompasses the world's best in organizational performance, innovations, products and services, and the honor rounds out long list of spectacular achievements and recognitions earned by SpectorSoft in 2015.

SpectorSoft's award-winning product, Spector 360 Recon, is intended for mid-sized and large enterprises, and the latest release includes the addition of psycholinguistic indicators -- such as sentiment based on tone and intensity of communications -- to help organizations improve the effectiveness of detecting insider threats. Spector 360 Recon combines behavioral baselining of both technical and psycholinguistic indicators to more accurately and quickly detect anomalies that suggest risk of insider attack -- one of the most crippling attacks organizations face today.

Gartner states, "Organizations need to balance their security investments across protection and detection (see "Use Six Principles of Resilience to Address Digital Business Risk and Security"). Detection can be more successfully accomplished using advanced behavioral analytics rather than just using rules."

Spector 360 Recon is a UEBA solution with a heavy emphasis on detecting data loss potential as it relates to insider threats. SpectorSoft's anomaly detection is powered by sophisticated psycholinguistics, statistical analysis and algorithms, rather than employing a rules-based approach. The tool includes its own data collector and is designed to be up and running without the need for lengthy and expensive professional services engagements. Recon integrates with Spector 360, the leading User Activity Monitoring solution, to enable rapid investigation into exactly what the user did to trigger an alert, speeding incident response and ultimately threat mitigation.

Gartner adds, "Providers of security monitoring technologies and services need to develop or acquire statistical analysis and machine learning capabilities to incorporate into their security monitoring platforms or services. Rule-based detection technology alone is unable to keep pace with the increasingly complex demands of threat and breach detection."

"By combining the ability to detect anomalies, in the way insiders interact with data and systems with alerting based on psycholinguistic indicators, Spector 360 Recon improves the signal to noise ratio, enhances detection, and provides additional data points that facilitate prioritization and response," says Phil Zamfino, senior director of product management at SpectorSoft.

Further recognition by the Golden Bridge Awards as one of the top Innovations in Technology gives SpectorSoft great confidence heading into 2016 as one of the leaders in the UEBA market. Many of the largest and most publicized breaches in 2015 were the result of insider threats and there is little reason to suspect that will change in 2016. Breaches such as AT&T, Morgan Stanley and Tesla are just the tip of the iceberg, as research found that only nine percent of organizations believe they have "very effective, proven" insider threat prevention measures currently in place.2

Perimeter-focused and rules-based security approaches offer limited protection as they fail to understand the human element of a malicious actor. Insiders already have authorized access to organizations' most valuable systems and information and this is where SpectorSoft's approach to UEBA gives enterprises a fighting chance to secure their prized information.
