Spectra Energy Transmission Marks Half-Century of Community Commitment with Support for Local Projects

Submission deadline extended for Westcoast Investments in Safety and Environment grant program

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 12, 2007) - To mark its half-century of operations in Western Canada, Spectra Energy Transmission recently established funding for 50 grants, in the amount of $1,000 each, to support unique local projects in British Columbia focused on improving safety or the environment. To provide a greater opportunity for potential recipients to complete their submissions for the Westcoast Investments in Safety and the Environment (WISE) grants, the proposal deadline has been extended to July 15.

Proposals for Spectra Energy's WISE grants should provide community benefits such as improved community or school safety; enhancement of open spaces, park land or wildlife habitat; and environment or safety education programs. Eligible recipients include local governments, non-governmental safety and environmental organizations, schools and youth groups or individuals who identify a noteworthy community-oriented safety or environment project in the areas of British Columbia where Spectra Energy Transmission operates.

"This special grant program celebrates our ongoing commitment to community and reflects our company's dedication to the highest standards of safety, reliability and environmental responsibility in all our operations," says Sue Malcolm, director of public affairs, community and aboriginal relations. "We invite our neighbours and community partners to join us by bringing forward project ideas that meet unique community needs."

Grants will be awarded no later than September 15 and will be based upon community need, competitive use of funds and the ability to complete the safety/environmental projects as proposed. For more information and to download a grant application, visit www.spectraenergy.com/community.
