Sphero Breaks the Rules With New SPRK Bot

BOULDER, CO--(Marketwired - August 04, 2015) - Sphero, leaders in connected play, announced today the launch of the new Sphero SPRK Edition -- the robot designed to inspire tomorrow's inventors and innovators. This new clear-shelled Sphero is powered by an all new app experience that allows users to execute programs with visual blocks representing Sphero's own C-based coding language called OVAL.

Sphero SPRK Edition and the SPRK app are designed to inspire a love of robotics, coding, and STEM principles while teaching the power of cause, effect, and conditions in programming. The clear shell allows users to see the immediate connection between the program they created and how the guts of their Sphero work. Sphero SPRK Edition, coupled with the intelligently designed app experience, encourages users to think deeper and generate new ideas for what's possible between a program, a robot, the physical world, and their imagination.

"There's no rule that says learning shouldn't be fun, or that playing can't be valuable. If there is, we created SPRK to break it. From a local meetup group to a robust classroom program, we never imagined SPRK would make such an impact. The community is thriving with hundreds of thousands of kids shaping their future through fun and discovery," said Rob Maigret, CCO. "Driven by SPRK's success and statistics citing a growing need for coding skills, we knew it was time to take the next step with this robot. SPRK is for the makers, hackers, and dreamers of the future... for those who would rather learn by doing, not by watching."

SPRK Edition Sphero is available at www.sphero.com and at select retail partners for $129. The new SPRK app is free and is available for download in the App Store for iOS devices and Play Store for Android phones and tablets.
