Spine Wave Announces the Commercial Launch of the Annex(R) Adjacent Level System

The Annex(R) Adjacent Level System Allows Spine Surgeons to Utilize a Minimally Invasive Approach for the Treatment of Adjacent Level Disease

SHELTON, CT--(Marketwired - Sep 18, 2014) - Spine Wave, Inc. is a medical device company dedicated to leveraging its proprietary technology and expertise to provide spine surgeons with a broad, differentiated portfolio of expandable and other less invasive, more efficient solutions to real surgical challenges. Today Spine Wave announces that it has released the Annex® Adjacent Level System for full commercial launch.

The Annex® Adjacent Level System is the world's first adjacent level system designed to treat patients with currently instrumented segments from a minimally invasive approach. The Annex® Adjacent Level System is attached to a previously implanted 5.5mm diameter rod and then, via a percutaneous or mini open approach, attached to a Sniper® Spine System screw, eliminating the need to remove the existing hardware. The system allows the surgeon to treat multiple adjacent levels at a time.

"During the limited market release, the Annex® Adjacent Level System has received very positive reviews from the spine surgeons involved in the early clinical work," said Mark LoGuidice, Spine Wave Chief Executive Officer. "These surgeons anecdotally reported shorter operating room times and reduced morbidity relative to traditional approaches which generally involve a more invasive approach to remove previously implanted hardware. Due to the tremendous procedural efficiency this product can deliver, it has the potential to be a significant 'win' for the patient, the surgeon and the hospital."

Dr. Tim Adamson of Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates in Charlotte, NC, is a world renowned leader in MIS spine surgery and an inventor of the Annex® Adjacent Level System. Dr. Adamson stated, "Many minimally invasive spine surgery techniques have been shown to reduce morbidity and length of stay. In addition to those important benefits, this novel device should also deliver significant savings in operating room time which is a tremendous benefit for the patient, the hospital and for busy surgeons. At Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates, we are very excited to be part of an ongoing, multicenter clinical trial designed to capture the potential clinical and economic benefits of this potentially important break-through product."
