Sporting Index Suffer Six-Figure Loss on England's Italian Job

Sports spread betting firm count cost of Ashton's awesome foursome

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 14, 2011) - Four-try hero Chris Ashton helped Sporting Index's spread betting clients to a bumper payday after England's 59-13 demolition of Italy at the weekend.

The firm tried unsuccessfully to encourage punters to side with underdogs Italy, but still vastly underestimated the magnitude of England's dominance at Twickenham last Saturday, costing itself a six-figure sum.

In particular, winger Ashton, who became the first England player to score four tries in a single match since 1914, caught Sporting Index's rugby traders short. Tries in the 2nd, 24th, 54th and 75th minutes saw his try minutes market settled at 158, over 100 points higher than the original quote.

"We tried to get on side with England in all our markets, but the punters were having none of it," comments Wayne Lincoln, Sporting Index spokesman. "It might be Valentine's Day, but I'm afraid there's not much love for Chris Ashton and England on our trading floor today."
