Sports Field Holdings Introduces Primeplay™ Line of Synthetic Turf, an Alternative to Potentially Harmful Crumb Rubber Athletic Fields

WARRENVILLE, IL--(Marketwired - June 08, 2016) - Sports Field Holdings, Inc. (the "Company" or "Sports Field") (OTCQB: SFHI), an innovative product development company engaged in the design, engineering and construction of athletic fields, facilities and sports complexes and sale of customized synthetic turf products, today announced the availability of its "PrimePlay" crumb rubber-free line of synthetic turf products.

With its flagship PrimePlay products available and already being installed in athletic facilities nation-wide, Sports Field provides an alternative to crumb rubber fields at a time when experts are questioning the health impacts of existing products on the market.

In February of 2016, three federal agencies -- the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) /Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) -- launched a joint initiative to study key safety and environmental human health questions related to the use of crumb rubber in synthetic turf athletic fields, and any potential link to cancer.

In a statement from CPSC at the time of the joint initiative, Chairman Elliot F. Kaye said, "Today's launch of a coordinated effort among the leading federal health and safety agencies to research the safety of recycled tire crumb rubber is a significant first step to providing parents with the answers they deserve. EPA, CDC and CPSC are working together to end the uncertainty regarding whether it is safe for our children to play on fields and playgrounds that use crumb rubber and provide guidance that is clear, practical and reliable." The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is also investigating these potential health effects.

Sports Field Chairman and CEO Jeromy Olson said, "The safety and risks associated with crumb rubber remain an unknown to athletes, parents, and athletic facilities nationally, and we at Sports Field support the government's investigation into their long-term health impacts. We are pleased to be installing our unique alternatives with PrimePlay™. Our rubberless Replicated Grass™ and similar sport-specific turf products offer a compelling, crumb rubber-free solution in the industry."

A study commissioned by Environment and Human Health, Inc. (EHHI), an organization of physicians and public health professionals, conducted last year at Yale University, found 96 chemicals in the rubber tire infill used in synthetic turf and rubber tire mulch. Half of these were tested for toxicity, and of these, 20% were determined to be probable carcinogens, and 40% of the chemicals in that group were found to be irritants.

PrimePlay™ branded all-weather synthetic turf athletic fields are designed, engineered and constructed without the crumb rubber being investigated by consumer advocacy groups and regulators, and are created to maximize player safety and athletic performance. Replicated Grass instead employs organic in-fill, made from walnut shells and Zeolite, providing a natural alternative to the re-purposed car tires used in the industry today. PrimePlay™ products have tested favorably in side-by-side comparisons to natural grass and existing synthetic athletic fields, and have been endorsed by a growing group of professional athletes and brand Ambassadors, including former NFL linebacker Ray Lewis, major league soccer player Chris Winger, and LA Dodgers pitching Coach Rick Honeycutt.
