Spring Medical Systems' SpringLabs Strengthens Market Share

Lab Interface Revenue Increases More Than 100 Percent in First Half of 2007

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - September 12, 2007) - Spring Medical Systems, a leading provider of software solutions for small- and medium-sized medical practices, announced today the steadily growing success of SpringLabs®. SpringLabs revenue has increased by more than 100 percent for the first half of 2007; new installs are increasing dramatically, with both the total number of practices installed and install revenues more than 100 percent between the first and second quarters of the year.

The SpringLabs system enables medical practices to automatically receive reference lab results directly to the SpringCharts® electronic health record (EHR) desktop. To date, it has been adopted by more than 16 diagnostic reference labs or lab information systems, to include LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics on a national level, as well as by regional organizations such as Hunter Labs, Interpath, Pathologist Regional Labs, Spectrum Labs and Westcliff.

"Before installing SpringLabs, I would review printed lab results, which often arrived 24 or more hours after blood was drawn, then highlight what I wanted entered into SpringCharts," said Dr. Richard Ganz. "My staff would then spend seven to eight hours each week entering selected parts of the lab data. Now that we have implemented SpringLabs, lab results are available in SpringCharts quickly after blood is drawn; there is no pre-screening of printed results needed by me. It has improved my ability to observe lab trends expeditiously and has been a huge time saver for my practice."

One of the key differentiators contributing to the overwhelming popularity of SpringLabs is its test name-matching technology. SpringLabs offers unique "Adaptive Mapping" technology that enables practices to normalize the various test-naming conventions used by particular labs. For instance, a test called "WBC" by one lab may be called a "White Blood Cell Count" test by another lab. With SpringLabs' Adaptive Mapping, these tests are recognized as identical test types that can then be easily managed and aggregated to create historical trending reports.

SpringLabs connects with Spring Medical Systems' flagship EHR offering, SpringCharts. More than just a charting program, SpringCharts is built to work the way a practice works, simplifying typical office tasks while increasing efficiency so that doctors may focus on what they do best -- providing quality patient care. The SpringLabs interface further supports this goal by delivering discrete lab test results electronically over a secure connection, which can then be viewed and processed with a minimum of time and effort.

"SpringLabs' success isn't only about improved safety -- it is also about improved office efficiency," said Jack Smyth, CEO of Spring Medical Systems. "Add the two together, and the result is a better bottom line for doctors' offices all around. Spring Medical is dedicated to contributing to a safer, more efficient medical system for both doctors and patients."
