Springfield Dentist Urges Patients to Use Insurance Before It's Too Late

LONGMEADOW, MA--(Marketwired - November 16, 2015) - As the holidays and end of the year quickly approach, Dr. Jim Dores is asking patients to use their dental benefits before Dec. 31.

Dr. Dores, who operates Dores Dental, said the end of the year is the opportune time to resolve dental issues and use remaining dental benefits. Dental insurance companies allot policyholders an annual sum, but the catch is that the unused insurance dollars do not roll over to the next year. Instead, the policyholder loses unused benefits forever.

Dr. Dores said he does not want to see patients pay into a plan for 12 months and then lose hundreds -- or even thousands -- of dollars.

"You are literally throwing your money away if you end the year with remaining insurance dollars," Dr. Dores said. "I encourage every patient with remaining insurance dollars to call our office and schedule a visit before their benefits are taken away."

Dr. Dores's office works with patients and insurance companies to provide affordable treatment plans. Additionally, patients may be surprised to know what treatments are covered by their insurance. Some insurance companies will partially cover treatments like Invisalign or even cosmetic dental procedures.

More commonly, dental insurance companies award policyholders free dental cleanings and exams every year and cover restorative procedures like crowns and fillings.

"I hate to see patients with great insurance not giving themselves the care they need or deserve," Dr. Dores said. "Our office is here to help educate you about your oral health and resolve any outstanding issues."

Dores Dental, 175 Dwight Rd., Ste. 304, serves the communities of Longmeadow, Hampden, Southwick, Springfield, Wilbraham, West Springfield and Agawam, Mass., as well as Enfield and Somers, Conn. He treats children, teens and adults in his office. Dr. Dores offers Invisalign to patients who want a discreet, pain-free way to straighten their teeth. This virtually invisible teeth-alignment therapy is popular with busy adults and professionals because of its convenience and comfort.

Dr. Dores spent nine years working in sales and finance before entering dental school. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and worked as an associate dentist for four years before purchasing his own practice in 2010. Dr. Dores has advanced education in general dentistry, Synergy implant training, Invisalign and same-day crowns. He uses a CEREC machine to produce natural-looking and durable same-day restorations and DentalVibe to render pain-free injections.

Dr. Dores received the Vitals Patient Choice Award in 2013 and 2014, a recognition given out by, a patient-review site for doctors. He is dedicated to his community and donates his time to Alana Smiles, a charity that offers treatment for oral cancer patients, and Dentistry From The Heart, a national collaboration of dentists who provide free dentistry for a day for patients without dental insurance. Dores Dental partners with local transportation services, shelters and local food vendors to offer a day of free exams, cleanings, extractions and fillings to those in need. This year's Dentistry From The Heart program was May 9 at Dr. Dores's Longmeadow dental practice.
