SPYRUS Announces Courier Mode for P-3X Encrypted USB 3.0 Smart Storage Drive Family for Secure Auditable Data Management for Enterprise, Government, Healthcare, and Law Enforcement Markets

Compact FIPS 140-2 Level 3 High Capacity Cryptographic Device Supports Storage and Applications in Forensic Analysis, Trusted Computing, and Secure Information Transport

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 13, 2016) - SPYRUS, Inc. today announced the release of the Courier Mode product for the P-3X hardware encrypted USB 3.0 Smart Storage Drive family for use in demanding applications where modifications to data must be restricted to privileged users and Read-Only capabilities are permitted to limited users or a subset of the trusted users. The P-3X Courier Mode is certified by NIST, Certificate number 2685, sharing its security capabilities with other members of the SPYRUS USB 3.0 drive family including WorkSafe Pro, WorkSafe, Secure Portable Workplace, Portable Workplace, and PocketVault Smart USB secure products. The P-3X Courier Mode also shares the family's same MIL-810 tested packaging along with an unprecedented selection of capabilities and features in sizes from 32 GB through 512 GB with 1 TB soon to be released for General Availability.

With the P-3X Courier Mode, only the administrator or privileged user can add files or delete them. Administrator privileges also include resetting the P-3X, effectively deleting all data from the drive and performing other functions such as resetting user passwords. The ordinary user is permitted to logon and read files or perform user-specific administration functions such as changing their password. Auditability of the drives to the file level, i.e., determining which files have been taken on and off the device, will be effected by the SPYRUS Enterprise Management System in the 4th quarter 2016.

"With the release of the SSD quality P-3X Courier Mode hardware encrypting drive, SPYRUS continues its security leadership in the industry's portable USB 3.0 data storage devices. This unique feature set in conjunction with FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification for both storage and PKI security services sets a new standard for security features and performance," said Tom Dickens, SPYRUS COO. "Use cases for these drives also dovetail perfectly with the rapidly emerging requirements for cybersecurity and secure forensic devices."

Typical uses would have the privileged user putting sensitive data on the P-3X device, such as sales forecasts, sales accounts, financial forecasts, intellectual property, sensitive presentation material or even data base updates; and limiting the end user to only "reading" the data and not allowing any changes to the data.

As with other members of the SPYRUS USB 3.0 product family, with its internal Rosetta PKI HSM, the P-3X Courier Mode supports the unique multiparty collaboration features of the new SPYRUS NcryptNshare™ applications for end-to-end encryption and sharing between senders and recipients to protect data in transit and at rest. NcryptNshare KeyWitness® Notary Mode provides file level non-repudiation with confidence the files have not been altered or tampered with whether files are stored in a private, public or hybrid cloud or in hosted on-premise deployments. Optionally, employing the NcryptNshare SDK, developers can seamlessly integrate these PKI enabled drives with the recently released Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Always Encrypted secure database for the ultimate in enterprise controlled information sharing and security.

The P-3X Courier Mode will maintain compatibility with the optional SPYRUS Enterprise Management System (SEMS). Combining a Microsoft public key with a smart card-enabled ecosystem and SPYRUS security applications extends a true end-to-end security approach for enterprise smart card and PKI infrastructure to mobile users. With SEMS device management, enterprise administrators can centrally register, block/unblock, revoke, set policies, audit, and "kill" the Courier Mode USB 3.0 drives. The latest versions of SEM 4.5 feature active directory integration and support for globally distributed domains and privileges. SPYRUS SEMSaaS allows enterprises to employ a "cloud based SEMS" without standing up their own servers.
