Squirrelly sprouted grain bread finishes top of its class in "back-to-school" taste test

San Francisco Chronicle's Taster's Choice award goes to Silver Hills' Squirrelly bread

ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 6, 2013) - Silver Hills Bakery, an independently owned Canadian company and makers of Canada's #1 organic sprouted whole grain breads and bagels, is proud to announce that their Squirrelly sprouted grain bread was the big winner with the San Francisco Chronicle's back-to-school tasting panel.

With back-to-school time approaching, the S.F. Chronicle's Taster's Choice feature is aimed at rating lunchtime options for busy moms. Noting sprouted grain bread's recent rise in popularity, the panel opted to start with healthy sandwich breads, due to its nutrition content and digestibility factor. Among the eight sandwich breads that were tasted, including Alvarado Street, Dave's Killer Bread and a handful of other contenders, Silver Hills Bakery's Squirrelly bread emerged as the clear winner, with panel members highlighting its "chewy texture," "sunflower and sesame seed crust" and "good wheat flavor."

"We were really excited to hear about this," says Ron Donatelli, Business Development Manager at Silver Hills Bakery. "For us this goes to show that people are beginning to better understand the benefits of sprouted grain breads and discovering just how good they are for you and how good they taste! We're proud to have been one of North America's first sprouted grain breads."

Silver Hills Bakery produces bread products that have been crafted from organic, Non-GMO Project Verified sprouted whole grains. Their story began in 1989 at the Silver Hills Guest House, a wellness resort tucked away in the beautiful and serene Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. It was out of a desire to inspire healthier living through healthier choices that Silver Hills Bakery was born.
