SR Telecom Launches symmetryMX V5.2 Voice Solution

- Leverages WiMAX technology in circuit-switched network environment - Allows for migration to VoIP next-generation networks - Utilizes common NMS platform for end-to-end solution - Provides seamless carrier-grade telephony services - Offers SIP-based dynamic call control

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 18, 2007) - SR Telecom Inc. (TSX:SRX), a leading vendor of broadband wireless access solutions through its WiMAX Forum-certified symmetryMX product line, today announced the launch of its symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution, which enables operators with traditional voice-switched infrastructures to leverage the wireless technology of WiMAX. SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution, slated for rollout early in 2008, has received buy-in from tier 1 ILECs and is interoperable with switches of leading operators.

"This WiMAX voice solution truly rounds out our symmetryMX suite," said Serge Fortin, president and CEO of SR Telecom. "It allows customers to plan for the future all the while taking care of present requirements."

SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution allows operators to deploy wireline-equivalent POTS services using WiMAX spectrum and to interface seamlessly with class-5 switches using a V5.2 interface. An open standard developed for operators with circuit-switched infrastructures, symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution is cost-effective and enables the installed base of voice switches deployed by operators around the world to connect with SR Telecom's broadband all-IP wireless platform, symmetryMX.

SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution is distinctive, for three key reasons:

- It relies on open standards (V5.2 and SIP) and is compatible with a wide range of end-user gateways;

- It preserves scarce spectrum and allows thousands of subscribers to receive carrier-class voice service from a single base station;

- It manages the end-to-end solution, including the wireless network, and both end-user and network gateways, using its best-in-class NMS

SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution ensures operators continue to offer the voice services subscribers expect, such as Caller ID, SMS and call waiting, while enjoying the freedom to choose dial-up Internet access or broadband Internet equivalent to ADSL - up to 10 Mbps.

SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution minimizes the total cost of ownership of a WiMAX network. "For operators," concludes Fortin, "the symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution reduces operating expenses without necessitating any change to their business model or billing infrastructure. They can begin generating revenue immediately."

SR Telecom, one of fourteen companies with WiMAX Forum-certified solutions, is also the only one that holds both TDD and FDD certification for its WiMAX suite of solutions. SR Telecom's symmetryMX FDD received WiMAX Forum certification on May 2006 and symmetryMX TDD, on December 5, 2007. WiMAX-Forum Certified™ products are the most competitive at delivering broadband services on a wide scale.
