WHY: The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup brings communities together to achieve real measurable impacts on the environment both globally and locally. By participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, people can change attitudes and behaviours towards littering our oceans and waterways. Through individual action, nearly one million kilograms of shoreline litter has been removed from the fragile ecosystem since 1997.
Trash is one of the most widespread pollution problems threatening our ocean and waterways – yet it's entirely preventable. The majority of shoreline litter removed during this annual cleanup originates from land‐based activities.

About the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup

A joint conservation partnership between WWF-Canada and the Vancouver Aquarium, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup aims to promote understanding of shoreline litter issues by engaging Canadians to rehabilitate shoreline areas through cleanups. It is now one of the largest direct action environmental events in Canada, engaging tens of thousands of participants annually in every province and territory. The 2010 annual Great Canadian Shoreline cleanup takes place September 18-26.
