St. Bernard Keeps Guernsey County Malware Free
Government Agency Relies on iPrism(R) to Manage Internet Access and Keep Its Network Running Smoothly
| Source: St. Bernard
SAN DIEGO, CA and CAMBRIDGE, OH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 16, 2007 -- St. Bernard Software, Inc. (OTCBB : SBSW ), a global provider of security and hosted office solutions for small
and midsize businesses (SMBs), today announced Guernsey County's government
offices successfully deployed its iPrism Internet-filtering appliance to keep the network malware-free. The
product also monitors and manages employee Web access for Guernsey County's
staff of over 150 elected officials across 22 locations in a variety of
public service departments, including adult probation, children's services
and emergency management.
Since iPrism's installation, Guernsey County has been able to remove the
majority of the malware that was previously plaguing its network. The
organization has noticed a 99% absence of malware, as well as a 40%
increase in network productivity thanks to iPrism's blocking of
high-bandwidth sites. Guernsey County also enjoys the flexibility that
iPrism offers, particularly with its block / unblock feature. The juvenile
probation department often needs to access MySpace, among other
social-networking sites, to address online gang activity and threats. With
iPrism, the IT manager can allow access to these sites for specific periods
of time with proper approval, providing workers with the access they need
while ensuring they are kept on task with specific time allotments.
Before iPrism, the IT director's day was consumed with helping officials
that inadvertently downloaded spyware that locked up their computers. Not
only were end-users vulnerable to Internet-based threats, but Guernsey
County's network suffered a severe drain on bandwidth, in addition to
approximately 60,000 daily spoof attacks on the firewall. With a one-man IT
department, Guernsey County needed a solution that was easy to implement
and maintain in order to free up his time for more pertinent district-wide
projects.
"I had to put a lot of my tasks on the back burner as 30% of my day was
spent repairing damaged PCs due to the plethora of spyware / adware
programs being installed on our computers," said Mark Broom, IT director at
Guernsey County. "By deploying St. Bernard's iPrism, I now have the time to
focus on projects and tasks that I was previously sidetracked from."
"Government entities like Guernsey County can't afford to have officials
accessing inappropriate sites, nor do they have the time or resources to
keep up with the rapid pace of viruses entering their network," said Vince
Rossi, president and CEO at St. Bernard. "iPrism provides a robust,
powerful Web-filtering service at an affordable price point. Additionally,
with its automatic URL database updates, it frees up a limited IT staff
from ongoing maintenance so they can focus on more pressing issues at
hand."
iPrism is a dedicated appliance that does not require any additional
hardware or software, and is easy to install, configure and administer. Its
proprietary, kernel-level filtering protects against threats in HTTP, IM
and P2P traffic, such as spyware, malware and phishing. Further information
