St. Christopher's School Enters New Era

Launches Search for New Headmaster

RICHMOND, VA--(Marketwired - Jun 11, 2015) - St. Christopher's School announces that the 2015-2016 school year will be Headmaster Charley Stillwell's last year at St. Christopher's, ending an 18-year tenure at the helm of the only JK-12 all boys school in the Metro Richmond region.

Stillwell has accepted the position of Head of School at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA, and will succeed current Episcopal Head of School Robert Hershey beginning July 1, 2016. St. Christopher's has formed a Search Committee to begin the search process and strategy to hire the next great head of school.

"St. Christopher's has never been stronger, with record enrollment and endowment and annual giving at all-time highs," said St. Christopher's School Board Chair Thurston R. Moore. "The school is poised for much continued success in this new era."

During Stillwell's time at the school, St. Christopher's has experienced significant, transformational growth, with record enrollment of 1,000 students. The recent 60-acre campus improvement includes one of the region's best athletics facilities, the new Luck Leadership Center and Ryan Dining Hall, and the launch of the innovative Center for the Study of Boys. All of these resources have been added while retaining a single campus, an important factor in fostering the school's unparalleled sense of community.

"It has been a great honor for me to serve as Headmaster at St. Christopher's for the past 17 years," said Stillwell. "I feel proud to have worked alongside an outstanding group of faculty, staff, administrators, Board members, alumni, and parents whose love for the school and for the boys has guided us through tremendous success and progress."

Stillwell will also be regarded for developing the widely successful "Building Leaders from the Inside Out" leadership symposium series in 2005, welcoming to campus internationally known speakers and more than 3500 guests from across the Richmond area. Subsequent events were held in 2008, 2011, and 2014, fostering lasting relationships with local organizations working with youth as well as corporate sponsors who share the school's interest in shaping tomorrow's leaders. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary -- "Saintennial" -- during the 2011-2012 school year and hosted 500 educators from around the world at the 20th Annual International Boys' Schools Coalition conference in 2013.

St. Christopher's School is a college preparatory school for boys (JK-12) located in Richmond, Virginia. The School seeks to prepare a talented and diverse group of boys for college and for life in an ever-changing world. A rigorous academic program, small classes, dedicated and nurturing teachers who are experts in how boys learn, a vibrant program in athletics and the arts, and a commitment to leadership and personal responsibility are hallmarks of a St. Christopher's education.
