St. Christopher's School Welcomes 500 International Educators for Conference

20th Annual IBSC Conference Hits Richmond

RICHMOND, VA--(Marketwired - Jul 1, 2013) - St. Christopher's School in Richmond, Virginia is hosting the 2013 International Boys Schools Coalition (IBSC) Annual Conference, Brother to Brother: Looking In, Reaching Out, June 30 through July 3. More than 500 educators from around the world are attending the conference which focuses on best practices in the education of boys as they relate to empathy, collaboration, service, global engagement and the importance of strong teacher/student relationships. Speakers will include internationally known authors and educators, all experts on the intellectual and emotional development of boys. Generous support from MWV Foundation enables approximately 100 teachers and administrators from Richmond area public schools to join IBSC members in attending a number of conference sessions.

The IBSC Student Forum
In addition to educators, 33 students from the 200 IBSC member schools are in Richmond during the conference for a Student Forum. "After digitally engaging for the past nine-months in a program focused on civic responsibility and leadership, boys from around the world, ranging from Hong Kong to Sydney to Johannesburg to Richmond, will come together for one week to further build on relationships they have made with each other and examine what it means to be a globally engaged citizen," said John Green, Director of St. Christopher's Summer Institute of Leadership and Public Service. "While here, they will explore and develop ways to continue to make a positive difference in their communities through local action with a global perspective."

For two decades, the IBSC has worked to advance boys' education amidst a flurry of media attention highlighting boys at risk and boys in crisis. The professional educators in this coalition work closely with schools across the globe to determine how best to engage, enliven, and educate boys to be the leaders of tomorrow and to enable them to make a difference in the world. St. Christopher's is proud to continue this international collaboration as it combines the best of the IBSC with the best of Richmond's illustrious history.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation has estimated the economic impact of the four-day conference at nearly a half million dollars based on the industry-accepted Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) model.
