St. John Dental Office Trains in CPR and Lifesaving Tactics

ST. JOHN, IN--(Marketwired - April 26, 2016) - The dental team at two northern Indiana dental offices recently completed training in CPR and lifesaving emergency response.

Creating Smiles' St. John and Valparaiso dental team undergoes CPR training every year. The state-of-the-art dental offices provide safe and affordable dental treatments for patients of all ages. Dr. Scott Kapers, who operates Creating Smiles, said his entire dental staff is now recertified in CPR and capable of responding to a number of medical emergencies.

"We care deeply about every patient who walks through our doors, and we want to be prepared for any situation, although we never anticipate any problems," Dr. Kapers said. "This training makes me and my staff feel at ease knowing that we can provide lifesaving response if needed."

The CPR training included completing online courses and live training. The staff was taught how to recognize the need for CPR and then practiced CPR techniques. The Creating Smiles dental team also trained in choking emergencies. Dentist hygienists in Indiana are required to undergo CPR training once per licensure period.

Dr. Kapers said he works closely with his dental staff to ensure they are updated on the most recent emergency response techniques.

"When patients come to us, they expect us to handle any situation, and this training gives our patients the assurance that we are here to oversee their oral health and overall health needs," Dr. Kapers said.

Creating Smiles is a two-office practice that provides comprehensive dental services to children and adult patients. Dr. Kapers focuses on sedation dentistry and implant dentistry. Most of Dr. Kapers' dedicated staff have been with him for more than 15 years.

Dr. Kapers earned his dental degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry. He started Creating Smiles in 1993 and has completed hundreds of hours in continuing education. He offers comprehensive dentistry services, including dental implants and sedation options for fearful patients or those who need multiple dental treatments. Dr. Kapers received training in Botox and dermal fillers from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists for dental implants.

Dr. Kapers' associate, Dr. Ornelas, also earned his dental degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry. Dr. Ornelas, a Crown Point native, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University.

The Creating Smiles St. John location, 8217 Wicker Ave., is open from Monday through Saturday. The Valparaiso location, 2262 Morthland Dr., is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
