St. Joseph Communications Appoints Douglas Knight as President of St. Joseph Media

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 28, 2006) - St. Joseph Communications is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Knight as president of St. Joseph Media.

The former publisher and CEO of The Financial Post and The Toronto Sun, Mr. Knight recently returned to Toronto from New York where he served as chairman and CEO of the first U.S.-based Spanish language newspaper chain with papers in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

"I am delighted to welcome Doug Knight to our team," says Tony Gagliano, executive chairman and CEO of St. Joseph Communications. "He is a creative media strategist who brings an extraordinary track record of success to St. Joseph Media. He is a newspaper and magazine publisher with experience in radio, television, and web-based media development, whose reputation for building great teams and achieving great results spans acquisitions, start-ups, and turnarounds."

Mr. Knight enjoyed a 20-year career with The Financial Post, including four years as publisher of The Financial Post Magazine and five years as publisher of the newspaper. As publisher of the magazine, he led a redesign and repositioning that resulted in an increase in readership of more than 60 per cent. He became publisher of The Financial Post newspaper in 1992 after it had experienced years of losses following its launch as a daily. He again led a redesign and repositioning and with a new management team brought the paper to profit within 18 months and doubled advertising revenues over his term as publisher. Under his leadership, The Toronto Sun was the only major daily in Toronto to record increased paid circulation during the launch of The National Post and the opening round of the great Canadian newspaper war.

He has served the industry through positions with numerous boards and committees, including chair of the Canadian Journalism Awards and director of the Canadian Newspaper Association, Magazines Canada, and the Print Measurement Bureau.

Active in the arts community for many years, Mr. Knight is a director of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation and has served as chair of Opera Atelier, vice-chair of the McMichael Gallery and the Toronto Symphony, trustee of the Council for Business and the Arts, and chair of the Business and the Arts awards.

Mr. Knight has served on the boards of public and private companies in Canada and the U.S. and was recently appointed to the board of Falconbridge Limited.

"I am thrilled to be joining St. Joseph Media and am looking forward to working with some of the best talent in the industry," says Mr. Knight. "In a media environment of unprecedented change and choice, Tony and I share the view that compelling magazines of substance and style are uniquely positioned to connect with readers and to serve and delight across a range of branded media platforms. I am particularly pleased to be joining an organization that has taken a leadership role in the community, from support of the arts to environmental stewardship."
