The Board of St. Michael's Hospital announced today that President and CEO Jeff Lozon has decided to leave St. Michael's Hospital, effective June 1, 2009. At that time Mr. Lozon will assume the position of President and CEO of Revera, a large North American provider of seniors' accommodations and services. St. Michael's Hospital will immediately commence a process to appoint a new President and CEO to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership.

"For the last 17 years, Jeff Lozon has made tremendous contributions to St. Michael's Hospital and is deeply respected across the organization," said Bill Downe, Chair of St. Michael's Hospital Board of Directors and President and CEO of BMO Financial Group. "He has built a values-based academic health sciences centre, grounded in compassion and a commitment to innovation, and recognized as a beacon of good management. He put in place a strong and accomplished management team. Under Jeff's leadership, St. Michael's Hospital has become one of the finest hospitals in the country and a burgeoning world player in research, science and education."

Mr. Lozon joined St. Michael's Hospital in 1991 as Chief Operating Officer and within a year was appointed President and CEO. Under his leadership, the Hospital underwent the most dramatic financial turnaround in Canadian history; constructed the 17-story Cardinal Carter wing; merged with the Wellesley Central Hospital; established internationally renowned clinical and research programs focused on issues impacting inner city residents; and is now building the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, comprised of the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Centre in Health Care Education. He served as Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for the Province of Ontario (1999-2000). In 2006, Mr. Lozon was chosen by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Chair the Canadian Partnership against Cancer.

"Jeff's achievements at St. Michael's Hospital are remarkable and we are extremely grateful for his leadership and vision," said Mr. Downe. "Though we will certainly miss his contributions at the Hospital, the entire organization wishes him continued success in his next role and all the best for his future endeavours."
