STACK and ASICS "Serve It Up" Volleyball Contest: Vista High School Wins $10,000 Cash Prize

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 2, 2011) - This summer, STACK Media and ASICS Inc. wrapped up their "Serve It Up" Volleyball contest, in which volleyball student athletes could win $10,000 in cash and ASICS gear for their school. To enter, athletes uploaded a video or photo capturing their best hit, block, dig, ace, or team-winning play. After five finalists were selected by STACK's editorial team, online voting by friends, teammates, parents and fans determined the winner.

Leveraging its relationships with high school athletic directors across the country, STACK marketed the contest through an integrated print, digital, and in-school campaign -- in STACK Magazine's 2011 Summer Issue; through video promos on and its various vertical sites, including a custom-created contest site; and via dedicated email blasts.

The contest garnered over 100 submissions and 33,058 votes for the five finalists -- Vista High School (Oceanside, CA), Kempner High School (Sugarland, TX), Cypress Creek High School (Orlando, Fl), Concordia Academy (Austin, TX), and Durango High School (Durango, CO). The grand prize went to Vista High School, on the strength of a video uploaded by Courtney Dunn showcasing her team's effort and her personal "kill" to attain a "side-out."

"We were really excited to see the response to the contest, and the level of competition among the schools was impressive," said Shannon Scott, Director of Marketing Communications at ASICS. "As a supplier of athletic footwear and apparel in the volleyball category, we were inspired to see the athletic abilities that Vista High School's team displayed, as well as the support of their fans and players."

"During the course of this program, I was blown away by the engagement and excitement within the participating high schools," said Carl Mehlhope, STACK's SVP of Integrated Sales and Partnerships. "It is a testament to STACK's partnerships with more than 12,000 high schools, which enable us to create highly effective grass roots programs for marketers and bring real value to local communities at a time when many athletic departments are struggling to fund their sports programs. We built this integrated marketing program from the ground up in partnership with ASICS, and it was an honor to work with such a great brand."

Vista High School volleyball coach Julie Kaiser remarked, "We were all humbled and shocked at the news of winning this national competition... and we are grateful that ASICS and STACK chose to provide a great opportunity and investment into volleyball, a sport we love so much."
