Staff walkout at Rolls Royce company in Denby

DERBY, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 20, 2007) - Staff working for Ross Ceramics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls Royce, will be staging a series of two hour walkouts every Friday for the next three weeks in a dispute over pay.

The action will begin on Friday (21st September) from 9.00am to 11.00am.

The union believes the company are refusing to pay the employees at Ross the same as their colleagues in the rest of Rolls Royce because they live in Denby. The staff based at Denby have been offered 3.5% compared to a 5% pay deal for the rest of Rolls Royce.

Tony Tinley, Regional Officer for Unite, said:

"We believe it is unacceptable for a company like Rolls Royce to historically underpay a group of employees purely because of where the factory is geographically based.

"Our members have no alternative but to stage a series of two hour walkouts. Unless the company act to rectify the situation industrial action could escalate."
