Stairway to Haven as Paul Nicholas School of Rock Comes to Holiday Parks

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 17, 2010) - Ever dreamed of playing in a live band?

Haven Holidays is launching the ideal break for budding rock stars with the chance to unleash your potential in a jamming session run by experienced professionals.

West End star Paul Nicholas in conjunction with Haven is launching the special Paul Nicholas School of rock and pop activity this summer at selected holiday parks.

Guitar, drums, bass and microphones are all provided – all you need to bring is your talent, attitude and enthusiasm. And there's no extra charge!

The idea follows on from former pop singer Paul Nicholas's acclaimed School of Acting and Performing Arts, which he set up to encourage youngsters to get more involved in the creative arts.

Award-winning actor and singer Paul has starred in virtually every major musical from Grease to Saturday Night Fever as well as making his name in a number of hit TV shows including Just Good Friends and Bust.

He's also had a number of chart-topping hits including Dancing With the Captain and Reggae Like It Used to Be before building a highly successful career as a stage producer and director.

Three Haven parks, Marton Mere, Presthaven Sands and Primrose Valley will be trialling the new activity this summer holidays with sessions for up to twenty-five 8-16 year-olds but if it proves successful the scheme will be rocked out to all Haven parks next year.

The hour-long sessions are aimed at beginners – but it's envisaged that participants will have the know-how to perform a classic rock song by the end of the session.

Young singers are also welcome, with microphones and amplifiers provided along with headphones to improve concentration.

Paul said: "Some of the equipment for a rock band is very expensive such as drum kits and electric guitars. This will give youngsters a chance to try something they may not normally be able to afford, and see if they like it. It may inspire them to want to take it further and who knows what talent we may find or inspire."

Paul himself began his career in his own rock band, Paul Dean and the Dreamers, and he was one of the late Screaming Lord Sutch's Savages performing vocals and playing the piano.

"I had a lot of fun being in rock bands, travelling around and playing to audiences and there was nothing quite as exciting as being in the charts and going on Top of The Pops," he said.

Haven, Britain's No 1 family holiday company, is keen to encourage kids' talent with Haven's Got Talent shows held at all 35 Haven caravan parks throughout the season.

Seven night breaks during the summer holidays start from £499 in Standard self-catering accommodation that can sleep up to six.
