Stamford Dentist Attends Chicago Conference to Learn the Latest in Implant Dentistry Techniques

Dr. Edward Shukovsky Recently Attended a Chicago Dental Society Meeting Where He Learned About Innovations in the Field of Implant Dentistry, the Year's Latest Technological Developments, and Better Approaches to Cosmetic Dental Issues

STAMFORD, CT--(Marketwired - Jun 18, 2013) - Dr. Edward Shukovsky, a Stamford dentist, is committed to staying on top of the newest advances in dental technologies and techniques for the benefit of his patients as well as his staff. Recently, Dr. Shukovsky attended a Chicago Dental Society meeting to learn about the latest research conducted by his fellow professionals in the field.

At the conference, Dr. Joseph Massad delivered a day and a half session on the latest innovations in implant dentistry impression techniques. Dr. Massad's session, titled "Concepts in Implant Prosthodontics," highlighted techniques of achieving functional impressions for permanent dental implants and removable dentures and how to apply these techniques to any treatment involving restorative materials. Dr. Shukovsky says he was particularly interested in a portion of the lecture that explained how to take an impression for an implant so that less distortion occurs during the process of transferring the impression material from mouth to model. Using this technique will reduce the need to remake models that do not hold their original form, which Dr. Shukovsky says is invaluable.

The cosmetic dentist was also interested in Dr. Joseph Blaes' report on new dental products and technologies that have been recently released. In addition, Dr. Joyce Bassett delivered a talk, titled "More to Front Teeth Than Looks Alone," that investigated the functional analysis of patients' teeth, providing guidelines for knowing when the front teeth should be adjusted and when it is best to hold off treatment.

"It's amazing to me how many people are working toward improving every facet of what we do," says Dr. Shukovsky. "Whether researchers are developing a new impression material, or a new technique on bonding, or a new technique on how to take that impression, people are always working behind the scenes to make everything better."

According to Dr. Shukovsky, dentists who have not kept up with the latest developments in the field will not be using the newest equipment and materials or willing to find a lab that will work with the newest materials. He cites IPS e.max® Press as a recent example of a groundbreaking dental material development that he has adopted. In a recent blog post, titled "Lower Your Risk of Tooth Decay with Carifree's New Cavity Prevention System," he also noted the importance of implementing CAMBRA, a new predictive tool that helps identify patients' cavity risk level.

"The innovation is not always a new laser," says Dr. Shukovsky. "But sometimes researchers show us a new and improved technique, or the research a private company has done while developing a new product uncovers a revelation for the field. It is really impressive."

When asked who benefits from these innovations and continued education, Dr. Shukovsky's answer is "everyone." He says his Stamford dentistry patients benefit from improved quality and results, and his staff benefits from techniques that make their jobs easier and more efficient. "You can't do the same work you did ten or twenty years ago and expect the best quality," says Dr. Shukovsky. At his practice, the Stamford dentist says he continually strives to make dentistry more efficient and provide a better experience for all involved.
