Standard Oil Employee Jeff Wilson Wins Better Business Bureau Award for Coming to the Aid of Local Customer

BRIDGEPORT, CT--(Marketwire - December 17, 2007) - Jeff Wilson, Assistant Service Manager for Standard Oil of Connecticut (www.standardoil.com), came to the aid of an elderly Fairfield resident when a life-threatening chimney cleaning scam was taking place. The out-of-state chimney company had inspected the chimney and claimed that it was not working properly and needed an expensive repair. The elderly homeowner then called Standard Oil for a second opinion. Wilson immediately became suspicious so he checked the status of his technicians in the area and then dispatched a field supervisor to the home and chimney in question. While examining the chimney, Wilson and his crew discovered that they chimney company had blocked the flue with a piece of a corrugated box. Dangerous and possibly fatal, the cardboard would have eventually pushed carbon monoxide back into the home of the client.

"At the minimum, there would have been soot damage. Thankfully, it was removed and nobody was hurt," Wilson says. For Jeff's quick thinking and caring attitude, he was awarded the 2007 Connecticut Better Business Bureau Award For Superior Service By A Company Employee.

In addition to Jeff Wilson winning the 2007 Superior Service Award, Standard Oil of Connecticut also made history by winning and accepting three other awards, including the Better Business Bureau's highest honor, the 2007 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. The other awards won by Standard Oil included the 2007 Excellence in Consumer Education Award and the 2007 Outstanding Website Award. Standard Oil's awards were presented during the Connecticut Better Business Bureau's 79th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet on November 8, 2007. Along with the awards, Standard Oil also received an official commendation for community service from the office of Richard Blumenthal, Attorney General.
