Stanford University Professor and Co-Founder of Sustainability and Cleantech Practice at McKinsey Joins Chrysalix EVC Advisory Board

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 10, 2014) - Chrysalix EVC, one of the longest-standing and most active clean energy venture capital firms, announced that former McKinsey Director and now Consulting Professor at Stanford University, Stefan Heck will join the firm's industry advisory board. As a Chrysalix Advisory Board member, Stefan will provide counsel to Chrysalix and its portfolio companies on investment and business strategies as they commercialize sustainable innovations for industries in transition: oil and gas, electric power and utilities, mining and metals, automation and manufacturing, and chemicals and materials.

Stefan currently serves as a Consulting Professor at the Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford University, teaching and conducting research on innovation, energy, and resource economics. Previously he was a Director (Senior Partner) at McKinsey where he co-founded the Cleantech and Sustainability Transformations practice, and led the Global Semiconductor practice. Stefan received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from UCSD and a B.S. with honors in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University.

"We are very happy to welcome Stefan Heck to the Chrysalix Advisory Board. His impressive background and experience in global sustainability and innovation, paired with his ongoing work at Stanford, provide a unique combination of context and relevance that is so critical to the new energy economy," stated Wal van Lierop, President & CEO of Chrysalix EVC. "As many of the world's most energy intensive industries now face imminent and major transition, sustainable innovation continues to move up the corporate agenda. Stefan will provide valuable connections and strategic guidance to Chrysalix and its portfolio companies on topics such as rapidly evolving energy policies, investment strategies, management, and disruptive technologies."

In addition to his role on the Chrysalix Advisory Board, Stefan also serves on the Innovation Advisory Board of United Technologies, the advisory board of New World Capital, and the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford. Earlier this year, he co-authored Resource Revolution: How to Capture the Biggest Business Opportunity in a Century, which explores the ways in which innovators, including startups and global leaders, have answered the challenge of rapid urbanization and an unprecedented demand for oil, steel, water, and other commodities. As innovation disrupts many large businesses from oil and gas to power and water, the forward looking management teams that apply these breakthroughs to old-school processes and markets will tap into opportunities for 10x improvements in performance and radical new opportunities for wealth creation.

Stefan joins current Chrysalix Advisory Board members Paul de Martini, former Chief Technology Officer with Cisco Systems; Mark Dudzinski, former Chief Marketing Officer at GE Energy; and John Thompson, President of the Canada Mining Innovation Council and former Vice President of Technology and Development at Teck Resources. Each member of the Chrysalix Advisory Board provides deep expertise and strategic advice to the firm and its portfolio companies, including opportunity recognition and valuable introductions to their networks, potentially leading to new customers, partners, acquirer candidates and access to exceptional talent.
