STARC and Simucad to Add HiSIM Model to Enhance Prototype Shuttle Service

SANTA CLARA, CA and YOKOHAMA, JAPAN -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 23, 2007 -- Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center (STARC) and Simucad Design Automation, Inc. (Simucad) today announced the agreement regarding the adoption of HiSIM compact Spice model for the Process Design Kit (PDK) of STARC's 90nm LSI prototype manufacturing service named "Star Shuttle."

The Star Shuttle is the first 90nm standard process-based prototype manufacturing service in Japan and was established with financial support from five leading semiconductor companies (Fujitsu, Matsushita Electric Industrial, NEC Electronics, Renesas Technology, and Toshiba). These five companies started prototype manufacturing in October 2003, and in October 2005, STARC became the only contact point. Many universities and industrial customers use this service for the various purposes of research and development.

"STARC welcomes the agreement. STARC and Hiroshima University developed HiSIM model as the next generation compact spice model and with this agreement 'Star Shuttle' users will become able to verify their own circuits by using HiSIM model. Especially, for Star Shuttle users who design custom modules frequently for the purpose of verification, the choice of performance estimation is spread and the suitable design can be realized," said Soichi Ito, the operating officer and general manager of Development Department-3 for STARC.

"'Star Shuttle' PDK with HiSIM model is an ideal environment for designers who want to use and validate HiSIM model in the established 90nm technology," said Dr. Ivan Pesic, CEO of Simucad. "The designers will be able to utilize superior HiSIM performance in convergence and speed for large circuits and the accuracy needed for the high precision analog applications."

The Star Shuttle PDK for the STARC 90nm process is available from STARC at no cost to STARC members and Shuttle customers. Sales and support for Simucad analog, mixed-signal, and RF design tools and PDK support are available from Silvaco Japan. For more information visit

About The Semiconductor Technology Research Academic Center

The Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center (STARC) was established by eleven companies of Japanese semiconductor makers in December 1995. Its original goal was to seek out new and effective technologies through joint research between universities and the industry, in order to achieve breakthroughs in semiconductor technologies. STARC currently promotes the training of SoC design engineers, the joint development of SoC design platform technology for improving efficiency, and 90nm LSI shuttle service (Star Shuttle). STARC transfers the activity results to shareholding companies and exhibits the result as a technical standard or license supply. By these activities, STARC contributes to improve the competitive power of the semiconductor industry of Japan. For more information, please visit
