STARS Helicopter Airlifts Prominent CEOs into the Wilderness for Record-Breaking Fundraiser

CEOs "Stay" on Mountain Until Fundraising Goal is Achieved

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 1, 2011) - The Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) is partnering with influential members of the Calgary business community to make fundraising history with a goal of raising the single largest dollar amount ever in one day for STARS.

STARS has partnered with George Gosbee, President and Founder of Altacorp Capital Inc. and long-time STARS supporter, to recruit members of the Calgary business community to participate in the event called CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS. Other challenge participants include: Bill McCaffrey, President and CEO of MEG Energy Corp.; Kevin Neveu, President and CEO of Precision Drilling Corporation; Don MacDonald, Chairman of Sanjel Corporation; and Craig Stewart, Executive Chairman of RMP Energy Ltd.

A STARS helicopter will airlift the five CEOs early today, including Gosbee, and drop them in a remote mountain location in Kananaskis Country. The CEOs will be dropped at the pre- determined site with only one tool at their disposal to get them off the mountain - their cell phones. By calling friends and colleagues for support, participants will compete with each other to be the fastest to raise $100,000 each in donations. Only once they reach their goal, will they be "rescued" from their location by STARS helicopter and return to civilization.

"This rescue challenge supports a great cause," says Gosbee, "STARS is critical to saving lives, and this is a fun, adventurous way for us to give back and support this valuable emergency service."

Funds raised through CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS will support the STARS mission of providing a safe, rapid, highly specialized emergency medical transport system for the critically ill and injured.

"We believe in saving lives through partnership, leadership and innovation," says STARS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Greg Powell, "Who better to partner with to raise much-needed funds than with some of Calgary's most prominent, successful leaders?"

In support of CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS, TELUS has created a unique wireless infrastructure to enable fundraising efforts from the remote site. Additionally, TELUS will give $10,000 to STARS on behalf of the CEO who wins the "TELUS King of the Mountain" survival challenge. As proud supporters of STARS, TELUS and its team members have invested more than $1 million in this vital organization since 1991.
