Startup Hall Provides a New Address for Innovation

Seattle's University District Is Home to New Companies With Access to World-Class Discoveries at the University of Washington

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - September 16, 2014) - Startup Hall, the cornerstone of Seattle's University District startup community, has opened its doors to provide a place where emerging private sector companies intersect with established academic and commercial innovators. Startup Hall is part of a unique public-private partnership to develop a revitalized UDistrict where independent technology startup companies will benefit from the proximity to University of Washington faculty and students, research and advances in technology, medicine and engineering.

"Seattle is a global hub for innovation and much of that spirit and mindset begins at the UW. Our students and faculty are cultivating a lifelong passion for discovery that leads entrepreneurism in our region and our country," said Michael K. Young, UW President. "We are thrilled to work with city and state leadership, the thriving Seattle startup community and our neighbors in the UDistrict to create an epicenter for collaboration and innovation."

Seattle's University District Integrates Business, Research, Top Talent

Leaders from city and state government, the University District Partnership (UDP), the University of Washington and the startup community have worked together to position Seattle's UDistrict as a place where entrepreneurs can grow and thrive. The diverse business community and more available and affordable rental properties are also hugely attractive to startup companies. The UDistrict is easily accessible via transit, especially with new light rail set to arrive in 2016.

Proximity and coordination with the University of Washington is a huge draw for new and established companies looking for closer interaction with the talent, research and discoveries at the nation's top research university.

"I'm delighted to see the launch of Startup Hall, and congratulate Economic Development Commissioners Chris DeVore and UW President Michael Young on this innovative collaboration," said Mayor Ed Murray. "Startup Hall is an exciting piece of a broader urban planning vision, maximizing proximity to future light rail stations, ties to the University of Washington, and a thriving, urban environment."
