"Senator Kennedy had been a steadfast protector of critical health programs and civil rights for all Americans," commented Larry Hausner, Chief Executive Officer, American Diabetes Association.

Throughout his career, Senator Kennedy demonstrated his unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of Americans with disabilities including leading the efforts toward passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act.

Senator Kennedy worked diligently to defend access to affordable, quality health care for all Americans. He was also committed to pursuing biomedical research as demonstrated by his support of stem cell research and the reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Programs.
