Statement by Minister Glover on Heritage Day

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 16, 2015) -

Today, on the occasion of Heritage Day, Canadians are invited to visit the sites of our historical, cultural and natural heritage that allow us to discover Canada and reflect on our history.

This year's theme, "Main Street: At the Heart of the Community," highlights the importance of these living spaces in our heritage and invites us to celebrate them. In fact, the main streets that saw the birth of our cities and villages each tell their own story about the social and economic history of our communities.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, I encourage all Canadians to enjoy this celebration and learn more about our rich history, especially as we approach the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.

Created by Heritage Canada The National Trust, Heritage Day has been celebrated on the third Monday of February every year since 1973. This day promotes the recognition and preservation of historical, architectural, natural and panoramic heritage in Canada.

Happy Heritage Day to all!
