Statement by Minister Glover on the Occasion of the MuchMusic Video Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 19, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

Like so many other fans, I can't wait to see some of the great artists performing at the upcoming 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto.

I would like to congratulate the nominees and all the many professionals who share their amazing talent and passion and bring the joy of music into our lives. Music is a language that connects us with people from all backgrounds and serves as a bridge between cultures. I encourage all Canadians to tune in and watch our accomplished artists this Sunday, June 21.

Our Government recognizes that the Canadian music industry contributes to the vitality of our cultural scene and is an important sector of our economy. Overall, the music industry in Canada generates nearly $3 billion every year in economic activity from sound recordings, concerts, commercial radio and performing rights.

The Canada Music Fund gives Canadians and the rest of the world better access to Canadian music. In an average year, the Fund helps support over 400 album-production projects and 1,100 marketing, touring and showcasing initiatives.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish the best of luck to the artists whose great achievements and dedication will be honoured at the 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards.
