Statement by Minister Glover on the Start of Canada History Week

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 1, 2015) - Canada Day is a day for us to celebrate our country and our achievements as a nation. It also marks the beginning of Canada History Week, which runs each year from July 1 to 7.

Canada History Week is an opportunity for Canadians of all ages to learn about our country's past.

The theme for this year's week is "Sport Throughout History." This is especially fitting, as 2015 is the Year of Sport in Canada and our story is full of people and events that have made our country into the leading sport nation it is today.

Over the next week, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the many great history resources available in our communities. Learn more about Canada and its places, people and events. Research a Canadian athlete or a favourite sport, or discover a new item of sport memorabilia.

Visit pch.gc.ca/historyweek for suggestions of activities, as well as online resources.

Happy Canada History Week!
