Statement by Minister Joly on the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 14, 2016) -

I am always impressed by the quality of the programs and films that are produced in Canada every year. Yesterday evening, I had the honour of attending the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards presentation ceremony.

Canadian creators keep outdoing themselves to offer us outstanding works, and it is their excellence that the Canadian Screen Awards honour each year. Whether in film, on television or on digital platforms, there is no end to the creativity and skill of our arts professionals. I am very proud of all our artists, producers, composers and technicians, and I salute their contribution to our cultural and artistic scene.

Canada's audiovisual industry contributes to the growth of our culture and is an important sector of our economy. The Government of Canada supports this sector by investing more than $660 million in it annually through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board, the Canada Media Fund and various tax credit programs.

On behalf of all Canadians, I congratulate the nominees and winners of the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards. Thank you to the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for presenting the Awards.
