Statement by Minister Joly on the Mid-Autumn Festival

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 15, 2016) - Canada is a diverse country with people with roots in every corner of the world. Our diversity is one of Canada's greatest strengths, and all of us benefit from our country's spirit of openness and inclusion.

This evening, members of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese communities across the country celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a special day where family and friends join together to give thanks for the harvest and to pray for well-being and good fortune. Evening celebrations may include lanterns being lit, children playing and everyone enjoying the traditional moon cakes while watching the rise of the full autumn moon-a symbol of prosperity, happiness and family reunion.

I wish all Canadians observing the Mid-Autumn Festival an evening filled with joy and celebration.
