OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 4, 2012) - Today, the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement on the official launch of Operation Wish 2012:
"The Holiday Season is an appropriate time for us, as Canadians, to recognize Canadian Armed Forces members' tremendous contributions to our nation, both at home and abroad. It is equally appropriate to honour the resilience and indispensible support of our military families. This is why I am pleased to offer my profound thanks to Canadian Armed Forces Personnel and Family Support Services and to Sears Canada for their incredible support and generosity through the launching of the seventh annual Operation Wish.
"I am certain that our military community and their families will once again appreciate and take advantage of today's Sears Military Family Shopping Day. As well, I am particularly pleased to note that this year's Operation Wish has been expanded to include the sale of a commemorative 'Support Our Troops' Christmas ornament with all proceeds to be donated to the Military Families Fund.
"The Military Families Fund provides support to military families who find themselves in need of emergency support when facing a broad range of unique challenges related to the conditions of military service. The Canadian public can show their support to our military families with the purchase of the 'Support Our Troops' Christmas ornament."
