Statement by NATO Secretary General on the Canadian ISAF Casualties

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM--(CCNMatthews - April 10, 2007) - "On behalf of NATO, I express my profound condolences to the families of the six Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan last weekend. I have spoken personally to Foreign Minister MacKay and Defence Minister O'Connor to convey my sympathies. Canada has paid a heavy price to help bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, alongside the other 36 countries that have soldiers in the UN -mandated NATO mission; but those sacrifices are helping the Afghan people to build a country that will be at peace with itself and the international community." Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary General.
